A new sculpture park, Matti's Cosmos, opened in the centre of Raahe in June 2026, inviting visitors to discover the imaginative works of outsider artist Matti Lepistö (1948–2020) from Pattijoki. Located on Rantakatu, between the Main Library and the Town Hall Central Playground, the park features 34 concrete sculptures relocated from Lepistö's original sculpture park in Mansikkakari, Pattijoki.
The new park offers visitors a glimpse into Lepistö's extensive artistic legacy. The sculptures on display have been carefully selected to showcase the diversity of his themes and subjects while delighting visitors of all ages – especially children – with their creativity, humour and imagination.
Matti's Cosmos provides an easily accessible opportunity to experience the work of a locally significant artist in the heart of the city. The park invites visitors to pause, explore the fascinating details of the sculptures and discover something new with every visit. As a permanent legacy of the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture year, Matti's Cosmos enriches Raahe's vibrant cultural landscape.
Visitors can also explore Matti Lepistö's original sculpture park in Mansikkakari, Pattijoki, where most of his extensive collection remains on display.
