Tauvo beach and small-craft harbour
Tauvo offers maybe the best sandy beach in the region.
Tauvo is a scenic seaside village in Siikajoki. The long sandy beach and shallow swimming waters make Tauvo an ideal place for families, sunbathers and surfers to enjoy a summer day.
In addition to boating, Tauvo harbour offers excellent opportunities for leisure and swimming. The waves in Tauvo are among the best for surfing in all of Northern Finland. The gently sloping beaches are also ideal for young children to swim and play in. Water quality is monitored regularly in the bathing season.

Bird study since 1965
Birders may be interested to know that Tauvonniemi point, in the Bay of Bothnia is one of the best-known birding spots in North Ostrobothnia. A bird station of the North Ostrobothnia ornithological association (PPLY) has been operating in Tauvo since 1965. The main focus has been on the ringing and observation of migratory birds, but also on observing the bird populations nesting and resting on Ulkonokka point next to the station. The birdlife of Ulkonokka, Merikylänlahti and Säikänlahti is valuable during both nesting and migration, and the locations have been jointly classified as an internationally significant waterfowl habitat in the Waterfowl Habitats Conservation Programme. For more information, see the Tauvonniemi bird guide on the association website (in Finnish).
