#TIP FOR GROUPS Heavenly decorations and divine pastries - Guided art workshop Raahen Taitopaja visit guided tour to Old Town Raahe coffee and pastries at Trade House of Lang

In the unique atmosphere of the old foundry, you can marvel the 150 different, traditional and modern himmeli, an age-old decoration, made from rye, beach wheat, glass, plastic and acrylic tubes at the Raahen Taitopaja Workshop. At Taitopaja you will make a himmeli decoration to take home with you.  After the workshop visit, a guided city tour will introduce you to Old Town Raahe and its engaging stories and take you to enjoy coffee and pastries in the cozy Boutique hotel and café Trade House of Lang in the heart of the historic wooden town.

Founded in 1955, the Raahen Taitopaja Workshop offers experiences in a unique environment. Tour of the Old Town Raahe can be done either on foot or by bus. On the Pekkatori square, in the gentle, casual atmosphere of the Trade House of Lang, the mind rests, and will you set off with the stories of the golden era of the sailships.

Himmeli is an ancient Nordic decoration. Tradition has come to Finland through Sweden, and the name Himmeli refers to the Swedish word for sky or heaven, himmel. These heavenly ornaments, being more than Christmas ornaments, were in the old days put up to secure good luck and abundant crop. The structure of a himmeli – especially a bigger and more complex one – is visually striking, with geometrical shapes made out of hundreds, or even thousands, of pieces of straw.
