Experience the timeless charm of Finnish summer at Yppäri’s Merimaja, where traditional dance nights bring people together by the sea. Located in a stunning coastal setting in Pyhäjoki, the pavilion offers a unique atmosphere where visitors can enjoy dancing while watching the sun set over the Bothnian Bay.
Dance evenings are held during Midsummer and on summer Thursdays through late August. The pavilion features a spacious, high-quality wooden dance floor designed especially for social dancing, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced dancers.
Finnish “lavatanssit” (pavilion dances) are a beloved summer tradition, combining live music, partner dancing, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Couples move gracefully across the floor to a mix of Finnish schlager, tango, waltz and other popular dance styles, creating a nostalgic yet lively social experience under the soft glow of evening lights.
For those looking to improve their skills, free dance lessons are often arranged in cooperation with the Raahe Dance Club one hour before the dance evenings. Please check the exact dates and details on the Merimaja website.
Merimaja’s octagonal, covered dance pavilion provides shelter while maintaining an airy, authentic wooden hall feel. During dance nights, visitors can also enjoy refreshments from the on-site café as well as beer and traditional Finnish grilled sausages.
