December 11th Old Town Raahe Advent Calendar

Johan and Baltzar Fellman wanted to name the school "Raahen Porvari- ja Kauppakoulu – school of bourgeois and commerce" The bourgeois part of the school provided a general education for the boys in the area, while the education in commerce directed them towards becoming merchants. 

Temporary school premises were obtained in 1882 by purchasing a house at the western end of Fellman's Park. 

Construction of a new school building began based on the design by architect Sebastian Gripenberg. The building was completed on September 22, 1891. In 1917, a fire broke out in the school. The school building needed renovation in 1919. After the renovations in 1919, the school operated for decades in the building designed by Gripenberg. 

In 1954-1955, the school building was connected to the city's water supply and sewage network. The old stoves were removed, and central heating was installed. In the late 1950s, the school was expanded by adding additional space to the existing building. The extension was completed in August 1960. 

A completely separate extension was completed in 1974. The then principal of the institution, Alpo Miettunen, stated during the inauguration ceremony: 

-The new office building, which was put into full use in the fall, opens up entirely new opportunities for the development of our institution. 

The latest additional building was put into use in 1993.
